La Llorona spotted near levee in Mercedes, Texas

The Rio Grande Valley has always had a rich history of Mexican Folklore and along with that comes legends such as La Llorona but such legends are usually spawned out of truth. We have had several sightings reported about La Llorona. As the story goes, though several variations exist, the most basic story tells of a woman who drowned her children in a river as a means of revenge because her husband left her for a younger woman.

She now wanders, searching for her drowned offspring. She constantly weeps, hence her name “La Llorona.”

I too have encountered La Llorona when I was a young
Boy in Mercedes Texas. I saw her along the levees as u go toward town. I live along that levee and my friend and I were walking around 10:00 PM in the summer of 1997. It was then that we heard a cry and it was getting louder as we approached. When we finally got to the crying we could see her. She had like a dress that was torn very bad there also was a bad smell.

We ran and jumped the fence then a gate and hauled ass as we ran. I just couldn’t leave without seeing it again. I made a bad decision, I can say that when something bad happens to me I can’t get that image out of my head. It’s like her face was like ugly round, like cylinder looking. The friend that went back with me saw the same.

We never talked about it till this day . But I would like some closure with what I saw with my friend that day. I have gotten closer to God because of that day.. Later on that year my other friends brother said that when he went walking home through the same route at around 12:30 AM because he was younger and it was summer he had to head home early, he said he saw a giant man with a long beard.

could the giant man with beard have been a Bigfoot?

I don’t know if both things were connected but he never went out with us since. If anyone knows how to get rid of that in prayer they should. Oh and along that bridge we have seen her too…

This story caught our attention, not so much because of La Llorona but because of the giant man with a beard. Could this have been a Bigfoot? This backs up the story that was submitted here about a theory that Bigfoot has been traveling through the canal systems of the Rio Grande Valley.
