The Haunted La Lomita Mission (Mission, TX)

Mission, TX – La Lomita Mission

“This old mission has just recently been open to the public. In the mission’s heyday, priests were rumored to be having intercourse with the nuns and burying the children’s bodies on the grounds. One night some illegal immigrants, who were aware of what was going on, went in and killed two of the priests. The third priest went to get help, but died while searching. The robes and bones of the priests were on display up until a couple of years ago.

Thereafter, it became an asylum for the mentally challenged. Many of the people working there reported seeing figures in robes walking around the grounds at night. The asylum shut down completely recently, but the grounds are still open to tourists during the day. You may not be able to go inside the old mission, but it is still worth going the trip.”

“I was there like 3 1/2 years ago, me, my GF and friend.  We were dropped off, ran and jumped over the brick by the gate.  We hid in the trees because border patrol kept passing by and lighting up the place.  Once we made our way to the front door, we opened it and closed it back so border patrol wouldn’t see it.  So, inside we had tiny little flash lights and started looking in every door. It was pretty silent. All we saw were old benches and some beer cans too.

Then, we heard a tiny noise, but figured it was just a rat or something.  So, as we made our way towards the stairs we see that there’s a gated door with a lock so we couldn’t go upstairs.  So we just kept lighting up the steps trying to see something when my friend starts saying weird things, like taunting the spirits. He started saying loudly “show yourself!” then he said for it to touch my hair or something on me.

I started saying that I was just there to see something and that I wasn’t there to hurt anything…but I got scared and put my back against the wall and started feeling chills.  Then all of a sudden, we start hearing tapping noises from the second floor, like when people tap on a window with their nails.  And the sounds just kept getting louder and the energy in the room felt fearful almost panicky, so we ran down the hall towards the front door.  As I ran, it felt like something was chasing me away… it is unexplainable.  We said we’d go back one day but then I heard the place had caught on fire.  Now you can just see right through it.”-Eve G.

I always heard that in the basement you can hear chains being dragged also that shadows appear all the time and for some weird reason it was burnt down by lightning.” –Lupe G.

“I did security during the remodel a few years back. Creepy as hell at night. Cries, people talking. One guard I worked with saw a woman walk in the chapel and he went to see who it was and said there was no one in there.” – Jon S.

“A few years back I worked as a security officer at La lomita, I worked there for two year’s.  In the two year’s of working there I saw and heard a lot of weard things, i heard baby’s crying i saw aperishons of children and heard what sounded like women crying.” –  Javier Perez

“Yes I too remember going with some from friends when we were about 16 years old. We parked at the gate entrance since it was chained and locked up. We hung out there for about an hour or so when we suddenly started hearing people screaming. We turned and looked towards the building and there was a crowd of people in robes walking around looking disoriented and then they would look towards us and scream. Scared the hell out of us since the place clearly looked deserted. We got the hell out of dodge quick and never went back. I never even bothered looking up to research this place until now that I’m 33 and freaked out to learn others have also seen what I saw that night. I thought it was all in my head.”

  1. One night many years ago before it burned down. We took a drive out there just to check it out. At the time you could drive right up to it. We drove up to the front to read historical marker plack. Sitting in the truck my husband read the plack out loud. As he read we could hear whistling of a song, but as he continued to read we realize the whistling was coming from inside the truck. My niece was sitting in the backseat and asked if we were listening I turned around and said I thought you were whistling as we spoke about the whistling and it got louder. And my husband said I think someone’s in here with us. I softly said I’m sorry we have to go and you’re not allowed to go with us you have to stay here. The whistling stopped and we drove away. Needless to say it was a strange and interesting encounter at this place . We were sad to hear Let It Burn Down.

  3. I was working at the school right next to it and i even ate lunch inside this chapel i had an eerie feeling , like something was watching me but nothing really happened , i took a couple pics of it for snapchat , its really quite cool

  4. I’ve actually been there twice. One of the times I was the with 3 other people including myself. I was in there for about an hour and fifteen minutes. While I was there not once did i hear anything or see anything. It’s just a creepy place because of the stories associated with it. All in all, my advice. Don’t bother going. If you get caught. It’s a class c mistominer. You don’t need that. Ryan D

  5. My husband and I visited there many years ago. It was a beautiful place. It had like a small museum with items from the old monastery. Didn’t see or hear anything during our visit, but the place did creep you out. You could not go to the 2nd floor or basemante since it was locked. My brother did visit once and did hear stuff when only he and his wife were there by themselves.

  6. Ohh I’ve been there and the lil chapel I have day video and night EVP’s breathing right next to the camera a glowing figure out line walking straight through me. A boy and a girl on the balcony a view of the center balcony with monk’s yes monk’s clothed in robes and demonic voices saying LEAVE US ALONE GO AWAY!

  7. A few of my friends and I drove there a couple years after 2007. I don’t remember what year exactly. I had not heard anything about the area or what it used to be. I didn’t know anything about it – but I did see a monk walk across the grass in front of the building. The are was lit up with bright lights and I do remember seeing a person – dressed in a brown garment walk across the lawn. It was dark – I don’t know where he went but I didn’t think it was a huge deal. Until now – WOW….

  8. I once went cruising throgh st in La Lomita,, with family members it was October 31 2009,,night felt spooky,,so we decided to leave and when my niece turned back to leave a black cat passed in front of us,, so we just made the sign of the cross and prayed and ledt at 100 mph

  9. My friends and I use to go many years ago pretty often. I actually because friends with the security guard at that time that would let us in anytime. We would go in there with cameras and camcorders to see if we could capture anything. We never saw or heard anything. But, I did capture a picture of 3 or so priests on the balcony looking out towards the road. Unfortunately i lost track of those photos😞. We even tried to sneak in a few times and heard gunshots. Now I am thinking it was the border patrol.

  10. I worked as a bookkeeper at the seminary back around or before 2001. The priests who worked there were responsible for that building. Well we had a lot of issues with people trespassing and finally decided we had to shut the power off for La Lomita. In order to do that we had to go down into the basement. It was myself, priest assistant, and the grounds keeper. We walked through the front door and you encounter a long hallway. You have to walk this hallway just to get to the area that goes down towards the basement. As you’re walking you’re passing doors all along the sides. Most doors were open and rooms were dark so you felt like you were being watched. We finally made it to the basement which was creepy but when we headed out something loud banged upstairs and then again towards the stairs leading up. We ran down that hallway out the front doors. I was screaming cause the tension in there was too much. It was scary. Not sure if it was the wind or maybe someone upstairs but still scared the crap out of us.

  11. One dreadful day, I went inside, worst mistake ever, what I think I saw, is to this day something I want to forget… a little girl dressed in a white dress and white hat…. pointing to were some kids were buried. I just remember runing to the opposite side, hearing kids crying and one loud and horrible shriek from a woman… as I got closer to the place I got in, I notice thst the people I went with was driving away, so I started running, they open the back door and I jumped inside. We drove off, and we all could hear the same shriek. We look at each other. The way back was quiet and awkward. We never talked to each other again… but one thing is certain, that girl keeps coming back, atleast on my dreams.

  12. Senior year 2000 we had a security guard let us in and it was the scariest feeling ever. We had been there a couple a times that year and saw/heard things. Haven’t been back since.

  14. My brother had told me and my little brother a story where he went with his friends one night and they tried recording and their phones wouldnt work to record nor take pictures and that they saw shadows and heard a women shriek so they ran away and he was scared for a couple of days in shock. When he told us the story me and my brother where like naaa your lying! So hes like look lets go so we went waited outside the gates for a couple of minutes and nothing. We told my brother you see your a liar hes like lets wait longer, so we waited and i started seeing black shadows across the front lawn I was like am i imaginating or am i seeing right and we where all concentrating when we heard a girl shriek we drove off real quick in panick my little brother hid under the seat crying & i was crying of fear as well it was the scariest day of my life !!! It sucks that its no longer there .

  15. I worked at the residential hall back in 1986 or so. One day, a client and I went to make copies in the main La Lomita building where the administration worked during the day. This was in the evening about 7 pm, still light, and we had to unlock to get in. I had no idea, this place was haunted at that time and as we were making copies in a room, we heard footsteps clear and loud coming down the hallway. They sounded like Mens shoes against a wood floor. I asked my client to check to see who was coming and he peered into the hallway to see. He turns around really scared and tells me, Miss, there is no one in the hallway. I heard them again and went to check myself and saw no one. I immediately used the phone to call someone back at the residential in the back and they checked all the rooms with security system and there was no one. They also came and got us as we were huddled in the copy room and went thru the whole building and there was no one. The guy that checked kinda started laughing because he knew the place was haunted and had seen many things too. Also, on one of the rooms upstairs there was a Star formation in the tile on the floor. I asked about it and a Staff member just shrugged in a knowing way (Astronomy room maybe?) I never forgot about that incident and many years later a different job I was talking to a co worker about working there and she told me one of her relatives was working with a crew there doing some type of construction and says they unearthed satanic books and told the boss, but the Boss said to get rid of them and not say anything. I did hear from the Staff there about other incidents like a cross in the basement that they would put up and it would come down and a room that always showed in the security system that someone was there, but when checked, no one was there. Pretty creepy working there cuz I worked the night shift.
