“A friend of mine in the 1970s, who had dabbled in magic, performed a conjuring spell. A few weeks later, she and a carload of friends were parked at a boat ramp near Crippled Children’s Landing. They were stoned at the time, but I don’t believe their experience should simply be dismissed as the influence of drugs.
She said that something black and distinctly female-shaped emerged from the water. Hanging from its head was long, straggling moss. The creature ran up the boat ramp and suddenly leaped onto the hood of their car. They immediately threw the car into reverse and backed up quickly, causing the thing to fall off.
Several years later, an acquaintance of a friend told me about an encounter he and a buddy had with what sounded like the exact same creature. I didn’t ask him any questions or give him any information that might have influenced his story. He simply told me what happened—and I was stunned.
He was from Kansas and could not possibly have known about my friend or the conjuring spell she had performed years earlier.
I’ve searched for accounts of anything resembling these encounters, but I’ve never found anything quite like them. I’ve lived around here all my life, and I’ve never heard another story about the Black Lake Woman.
Perhaps she is no longer inhabiting the waters of Lake Wright Patman.” -Anonymous
