Ghosts Of Minute Maid Park

Union Station, at 501 Crawford St, Houston (Texas, USA) is now integrated into Minute Maid Park, the home of the 2017 World Series Champions, The Houston Astros!  Check out John’s story below.

“This story comes straight from beautiful downtown Houston!

I was working as the site supervisor of security at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros about 5 years ago when I realized there are people still roaming Minute Maid even after the last pitch.

When I first started, I was enthralled to be working there as I loved the Astros and had watched them growing up as a kid. I made it my personal mission to find every nook, cranny and turn of this massive ballpark and to this day when I attend games I can point out interesting things about it most people don’t know.

It was on one of these night while I was on foot patrol I had my first experience. I was in Union Station on the 4th floor in the dark, patrolling the offices to see if anyone was still working, which sometimes they were, or anything unusual in general. Now it was pitch black on this floor and I mean pitch black and i didn’t have a flashlight.

Since I was new I had no clue where the light switch was, but I was determined to make it through with only the EXIT sign lights as my guide. As I was walking through I suddenly had a feeling I wasn’t alone. I chalked it up as it being dark and my fear getting the better of me. But then over my radio I heard a whispering noise.

I couldn’t make out what it was saying but it sounded like someone was whispering through the microphone. The radios we had would beep when the mic was opened so you knew someone was about to talk and would be prepared to listen, but my radio never beeped.

So I got on the radio and asked the other guys if they had said anything, they said no. At this point I felt weird, not scared, so I decided to leave. The next day I ran into a maintenance man who has been with the Astros a very long time and is just an honest, good man. I told him about my experience and he said, “Oh, yeah, Union Station is haunted, they didn’t tell you?” He swore other security officers wouldn’t go in there at night to patrol because how creepy it was.

During my time there my guys began to tell me stories about their experiences at Union Station and one on my night crew even refused to go in there when the sun set. Then one morning I was patrolling the exterior on a golf cart when I was passing by the front of Union Station. One of my officers had to be acting as a receptionist to receive mail from 8-9 until the receptionist arrived for work and usually stood by the front main doors. It was about 8:10 am.

My officer had his back towards me, and behind him stood a fair skinned lady with black heels and black hair. This was unusual because she had her arms crossed and was just looking out the doors, at nothing really because there are pillars right in front of the doors, but as if she was waiting for someone. This was unusual due to the fact the officer in the building had been there for a few years and everyone knew him.

We were trained that if someone, such as an executive was nearby we should greet them and if they are waiting, strike up pleasant conversation. But there he stood with his back towards her. I didn’t think much of it, so I drove of. Only catching a good look of her. When he returned back to the office I asked him who the lady in the black dress was behind him and he said there was no one there with him until the receptionist arrived at 9!

I told him what I’d seen and he said he knew Union Station was haunted and thought it was a cool experience. I thought it was cool as well. There are plenty of more stories about my time at Minute Maid if you’d like to know more, this one was just my most profound and I wanted to share it with you guys!”-John S.
