“I’m originally from Laredo, TX; which in it’s own right has a lot of haunted history. I am now a professional story teller and I travel from school to school to tell my ghost stories, and the kids love them. The one thing I always mention at the beginning of each ghost story is that they are ALL true. All of them. Each one of my stories is a part of my past and it all started when I was 3 years old. Here’s the beginning of my continuing ghost story.
Back in 1985 my mom noticed something off about me. I was very quiet and kept to myself. At times she would come towards me to comfort me or hold me and I would scream at the top of my lungs at her attempt. My mother knew something was wrong but she couldn’t put her finger on it. After visiting a few doctors not one could give my mother an accurate diagnosis. So, I was taken home. It wasn’t until one night that my mom fed me some spaghetti and as I finished my plate I looked over to my mom and said, “It hurts here mama.” pointing to my lower right side of my stomach.
I immediately became pale and collapsed. My mom in a panic called my Tia Nana to drive us to the hospital (dad was at work), as my Tia sped to the emergency I was cradled in my mom’s arms throwing up a brown thick substance. I finally arrived at the emergency and as x rays came back it turns out that my appendix had erupted. The poison now traveled throughout my insides for what seemed to my mother like forever.
The doctors had to operate, it was a large incision. Too large for a 3 year old. It wasn’t long after they opened me up that my fragile little body couldn’t handle the incision and poison…so I flat lined. 13 seconds dead. CPR. Pulse. Flat line. 9 seconds dead. CPR. Pulse. Pulse. Pulse. I was brought back. The doctors finished their internal cleaning and appendix removal.
I survived. My mom waiting for the news. The doctor came out and spoke to her, “We almost lost him, but he’s going to be fine now. Strong kid.” My mother rushed to my side as I lay in the recovery room. “Mijo, can you hear me?” my mother whispered into my ear. I opened my eyes and looked up at my mom and I smiled, I looked over to my father who had tears in his eyes. “Hi mama, hi daddy.”
My mom full of emotion and tears leans ever so softly over me and kisses my forehead. “Mama?” I said looking around my recovery room. “Yes, mijito?” my mom replied. “Where’s the nice lady that was holding my hand?” I asked. “There’s no lady baby, just us and the doctors.” she silently spoke. “She was real nice mama. She said you and daddy love me and I need to help you.” My mom looks on in wonderment. “She did?” Well, what do you need to help us with mijito?” She asked with a tear rolling down. “To help you be happy. Are you happy?” my mom cries.
“Yes. I am very happy.”
This story is only the beginning as I have now had countless amounts of experiences and unexplainable phenomena occur around me. I hope I have time to tell more of my stories. Have a wonderful evening and thanks again for letting me tell my stories here. :)” – J.Barrera
