We spoke with a woman living in Palmview, Texas, about the presence of witchcraft on and near La Homa Road. This was her response:
“We lived in the middle of two neighbors, and my mother was a wonderful woman. She would host gatherings and cook her delicious food, and family and friends would come over, happy and cheerful. But our neighbors didn’t like it. They were loud, drank heavily on their property, and had their sons play heavy metal music at full volume, almost as if they were bothered by our happiness.
My mom never drank or partied—she was, and still is, a sweet lady. But then strange things started happening. At night, we began hearing odd noises, like laughter—almost like a hyena’s cackle, mixed with a woman’s laughter. I would hear it on the roof, right outside my window. Sometimes, I’d see a bright light coming from my neighbor’s house, making it look like daylight, even though it was still nighttime. It was unsettling. I’d cover my ears and close my eyes until it stopped.
Creepy things kept happening. I would turn on a light, and it would go off by itself. My mom once saw someone who looked exactly like my sister come into her room, offering her a warm cup of milk in the middle of the night before leaving and slamming the door. The next day, my mom thanked my sister for bringing her the milk, but my sister said, ‘That wasn’t me. I don’t get up at night because it’s creepy.’ I remember hearing the door slam too—I was little, and I sometimes slept in my mother’s bed.
Over time, we started getting used to the shadows and the noises—things like the sound of flapping wings in the trees early in the morning. But then my mother started getting sick. Doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with her. Eventually, she went to visit family in Monterrey, Mexico, and while she was there, a healer approached her, saying she had only weeks to live. The healer told my mom to bring pictures of our land so she could locate the source of the problem.
My mom thought it was strange, but desperate, she did as the healer asked. This was in 1996, so she had to get the photos developed. When she brought them to the healer, the woman told her the source of the evil was buried under a rose bush on our property and that it had been placed there by our neighbors. Someone brave, she said, would have to dig it up and destroy it carefully.
My brother volunteered. When he dug under the rose bush, he found a doll stuck with pins, made from my mother’s undergarments. Back then, we used to hang clothes outside to dry, so it made sense how they might have gotten hold of them. The doll seemed to twitch or jump while it was being burned with lighter fluid.
After that, everything stopped. We never heard or saw anything strange again, and my mom recovered. To this day, I think my whole family experienced something dark and unnatural while living next to those neighbors. This incident occurred on La Homa Road in Palmview, Texas.”- Anonymous
