This old legend comes to us from Sharyland, TX, home of The Shary Mansion.
Locals claim to have seen the spirit of John H. Shary, a farmer and entrepreneur who built a citrus empire in the Rio Grande Valley located in Deep South Texas. He is also known as the “Father of the Texas Citrus Industry.”
In the middle of the night, people claim to have seen Mr. Shary walking across the road from the cemetery where he was buried back to his home, The Shary Mansion.
There have also been sightings of Mr. Shary sitting on a rocking chair on his front porch.

Cool
I got to see him, one night my mom , grandma, sister and me we’re coming down shary Rd. From my moms aunt house on fm.107 . We passed up the mansion I saw a man looked like he was in a glass booth with a flash light pointed to the orchards. I asked my mom what that man was doing, she asked what man? The man standing on the side of the road by that big house, she said that I saw the spirit of mr. Shary. That experience was in the late 70s. Later on I was told that there may be resurrected buried there n the flash light pointed the way
I visited the grounds just today 2/28/2020 and it’s breathtaking. Needs TLC but a lovely piece of history.
I lived there all my life and never saw anything. I would always drive home late from football games in the 2000’s and never saw anything. Even as an adult never have seen anything.
Out of the 22 years I’ve lived here I’ve never seen him. BUT, I used to take shady road all the way to 107 at night when I would be going to or coming back from my fiancés apartment in Edinburg and I would have to speed all the way down that road until I would hit El Tigre. Every time you drive through there at night it feels as if there’s people just standing watching you, or it feels like someone is in your backseat.
I ALWAYS get that same feeling when I drive through there. But I’ve never seen any apparitions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Saw him many times, turned around and went back several times, he would be gone or one time saw him walking away.
i love you sharyland!! i grew up on south benson ,,
My friends and me drove by at midnight to see someone, something, anything but nothing. This was back in the late 80s.
Still,nothing. 😒
